The two-party system has given this country the war of Lyndon Johnson, the Watergate of Nixon, and the incompetence of Carter. Saying we should keep the two-party system simply because it is working is like saying the Titanic voyage was a success because a few people survived on life-rafts.

-- Eugene J. Mccarthy, 1916-, American Politician

Posted by: IT
The official count -- known as U3 and dutifully reported by most of the media -- fails to show the true extent of the wreckage.
By Meteor Blades | Daily Kos July 2, 2009

Unemployment rose to 9.5% in June, a 26-year high, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. A total of 14.7 million Americans are now officially out of work, and payroll employment has fallen by 6.5 million since the downturn began in December 2007, 19 months ago.

Human Rights  The government of Israel committed an act of piracy.
By Paul Craig Roberts | ICH July 01, 2009

On June 30, the government of Israel committed an act of piracy when the Israeli Navy in international waters illegally boarded the “Spirit of Humanity,” kidnapped its 21-person crew from 11 countries, including former US Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and Nobel Laureate Mairead MaGuire, and confiscated the cargo of medical supplies, olive trees, reconstruction materials, and children’s toys that were on the way to the Mediterranean coast of Gaza. The “Spirit of Humanity,” along with the kidnapped 21 persons, is being towed to Israel as I write.

Money  Global Empire
By James Quinn | Financial Sense via Silver Bear Cafe, May 30, 2009

Money doesn't grow on trees for most of America. We sit down at our kitchen tables and write out checks to the phone-company, electric company, credit card-company, mortgage-company, and auto finance company every month. We clip coupons and go to the grocery store every week to put food in the mouths of our children.

MONSTER: from Latin monstrum, inauspicious portent or sign.
